What is happening

Sorry I have been a bit MIA here.

So here comes my updates:

Firstly Raising Thomas blog and puzzling items have been going well. We started off very well here and just remember new items are being added every week! It is fun and exciting creating these items!

I have now being listing lots of various items on my Made it Store. This is to open the variety of customers I am able to reach. I am doing an item of the day each day (when I have a quiet moment) to let you know what items are available in store. I try and do something different each day, but remember you can always just visit the store through that link by clicking on the link each day and then my banner at the top of the store. This will show you all items available.

Remember that Christmas is just around the corner. This year think Handmade as a way of helping out a local family and community rather than a big retail giant. You will also be give a unique gift that will be treasured for a long time to come. When it comes to fluffy changes items this is definitely the case!

Also the Handmade expo is only 10 days away now and once again we will be there with lots of gift ideas for family and friends, from key wristlets to make-up cases to children's clothing. There might even be a limited few items for mum and dad too! Can't wait to see you all there, it is going to be one HUGE market day with steam train rides and even a fireman or two!

Camp Autism Charity Auction

Tonight starts a 48hr charity Auction for Camp Autism run through Funky Fabrix.

Normally Fluffy Changes does not get too involved in Charity Auctions. (And yes I get asked almost weekly if I could help out.) But this one is different becuase this is something very close to our heart. I also know that Mary and Brian who run Camp Autism do an amazing service and look forward to attending their next QLD camp with my family.

So please stop by Funky Fabrixs facebook page and see the action starting tonight at 6pm (QLD time, or 7pm Daylight savings time).

Oh check out the item we have for Auction, you could win yourself a one off fluffy changes bag!

The puzzling product launch has been!

Ok sorry for the delay in this post. But here it is. Starting with the Birthday boy enjoying cake at the restaurant. We had a full on day and finished it at our favourite place to eat: Indian Mehfil In Ipswich.

So here is some thing very new. Key wristlets. They are sturdy and have one key ring on there already, but could easily handle one or two more.

Next we have the bags. The first one is a small fidget toys bag (or can be used to hold toiletries or other times) It is fully lined in cotton fabric as well. The second here is our classic coin purse, lined with a bright coloured fabric.

So all of these items have been sold. With all proceeds going to raise funds for Thomas's therapy items such as fidget toys, bouncing/rolling items, trampoline, and possibly an Ipad down the track if his therapists agree.

So we were very thrilled when these products all sold out. With extra orders. So if you would like any items please let me know and I will be happy to do a custom order for you. Happy days every one!

The puzzling product launch!

Ok so it is time to announce that the new product range will be launched on Monday the 19th of September at 7:45pm.

This is very special range of products is rather puzzling indeed. But when put together makes beautiful sense. It is bright and colourfull and treasured by all. Confused yet?

Only time will tell, but like all my products they are one off creations, even though they share the common theme. They are to raise awareness for Autism and Aspergers. But most importantly help raise fund for Thomas's therapy items and tools. From the little things like chewy toys, to big things like special trampolines and possibly an Ipad (if needed). Each item purchased is to be on the suggestion of his OT and speech Therapists. And funny enough there is all ready a list of items.

So this is what is new. Now the items will be some of our old favourites, to some new and exciting items, that will only be created in this special fabric. So stay tuned to what is coming over the coming months.

Market Sale night

As promised tonight is the market night sale on facebook. Starting at 8pm and running for 24hrs. So why not get in and check out what is on offer. There is a surprise or two in there.

Don't forgett sale nights it is until october. Due to Birthdays in September and the wonders of having a husband who works all Carnival of Flowers weekend (In Toowoomba, QLD) I am unable to clone myself to be the awesome mum and wife and marketere at the same time.

Also there is plans in the pipeline to have a special fundraising line. These will not just be our usual fluffy changes items either, but rest asured they will be made by me and have our lable. So stay tuned to that one as it hits the stores in either late this year or Early next.

So enjoy the preview of the items, and if Mr T is having a good day a few more surprises maybe added later on!

The Nappy Bag

Today I noticed there seemed to be a lot of intrest in my sample dick and Jane nappy bag, then people would notice the costing for this. So this is a blog post all about this beautiful custom made bag.

This bag straight up looks roomy, and when you look inside it is not decieving. There is 6 pockets on the inside 2 large and 4 bottle sized ones.

Then when you look even closer at the bag you notice it has some weight to it. Why? To construct this bag there is about 6.5 meters of fabric required. And it is fully lined with calico than with a contrasting fabric from the shell, and then fully lined pockets too.

So when you take that all into consideration the prices I am charging, really only cover material costs!

August market wrap up

Ok my lead up to the August markets was looking awesome. I was churning out new outfits, getting new portable change mats made and new fabrics ordered. Than it all came to a screaming hult on Thursday evening. A while ago my Little man (Mr T) jumped on my hand as I was laying in bed one morning and bent my arm back. It hurt a lot that day and for about 48hrs. Which to me means no big deal. Seemingly got better, although it was looking like I had a new artha spot. Ok no big deal either. Not something I would rush off an see a Dr about, just wait until my next review.

Than as a part of my weightloss journey I joined a gym. That elbow that I thought was no big deal was suddenly becoming painfully obvious that it was a big deal when I started using light weights. This saw me in my physio's office Thursday evening. I have done the ligiments (and/or the tendons) in the inner elbow of my left arm. So this is what my physio has done to me:

So this why today my arm was really bulky. It is not the most comfortable thing to wear for about 18hrs a day! It also mean driving is a pest. Lifting Mr T is a challange. And sewing, well I am not sure that will be such an easy task when you can't straighten your arm.

But the show went on for The handmade Expo today. It was a beautiful winters day with a hint of a breeze at lunch time and a slight bit more than a breeze around close of day. The cold start did not seem to bother the handmade fans of Ipswich and I think the visitors were definately not disappointed by the finds of the day.

I met some wonderful new people and some other not so new fans. And it seemed many were happy to see toddler boys clothes available again. In the coming months more summer toddler boys clothes will be appearing, so keep your eye out for the previews on Facebook.

Also remember that I can do custom orders for you, so if you liked something and it was not in your childs size, please feel to email me or make contact through facebook to put in a request for a custom order. This also goes for the nappy bags. (But more on thoose in a new post.)

Unfortunately for me, I am not able to be at the butterfly tree markets in Toowoomba this weekend, I was really looking forward to it. But as driving is a pest locally, driving over an hour west on a highway which on a normal day has it's own challangers is just not going to happen whilst I am in a brace that is so cumbusom. So my humble appologies there.

To make up for this, Later in the week I am going to be putting up 6 selected items on a market night sale. So if there is something you want to see in particular, let me know so I can make sure it is up for grabs on the night.

Madeit store and an explanation of sorts.

Ok Just thought I would let you all know that I have been listing in my Madeit Store again. I will be adding even more over the coming days as I get more opportunity to take more photo's and upload them to the store.

I have been a little absent (and possibly absent minded) of late due to the crazy first six months of the year. To start the year both my husband and I had surgery (this after all the floods) and in May we did it all over again, this time less than 24 hours apart! Nothing quiet like caring for your husbands needs whilst trying to recover from abdominal surgery!

A week later we got another shock, well ok if you have met my little boy you will know it is not that big of a surprise. Mr T was diagnosed has having High Functioning Asperger's Syndrome. It explained so much our son and suddenly his little quirks and outbursts all made sense.

As his main carer there was a lot to do in this last two months. From organising therapies to finding Early intervention programs for toddlers. But also dealing with other peoples reactions to this news. Some people were positive about it, others gave us a hard time and questioned the professional diagnosis which was very hurtful and insulting in many ways.

So for some reason I lost my sewing and creative mojo there. (Now I just can not imagine why or how it would leave me like that!) But over this last few days I think it is returning to me. So hopefully in the coming weeks, especially as our new family routine settles, my creative juices will be flowing like a river again and new and wonder full items will start emerging from my sewing rooms.

I also have to once again appologise for not being at The Handmade Expo on the weekend, as I had woken up quiet ill Saturday morning. Hopefully all will be well and I will be back next month!

My Creative Space -June 2011

I have been pretty quiet on the blog front as well as facebook due to so much happening with my family. But for some thing I have not done for a while I thought I would show you all a little of what has been keeping me busy.

The first one up is my 30th Dress. For a while there I thought I would have to wear a back up dress. It was touch and go as to weather I would finish it or not especially when it was lunch time when I was still trying to put the zip in. But with a few hours to spare I got it done! I must say I am happy with how it turned out and most of my outfit was hand made by some other talented people Such as Kellie Christie (neck lace and ring) and The button Bowtique for my hair piece. My next one has been made this week for Mr T. Who had such and awesome time at the fabric store running wild. But he found the bolt of this shrek blanket and pillow set. Because he was good and packed up the toys I agreed to make it up for him. (Oh and I am a soft touch too especially seeing it was not expensive.) I had some gifted sapphire fleece out the back so I used it as the backing for the blanket and top stitched around the blue in the centre of the blanket. For a day care blanket I am happy how this turned out. Do you think he was happy when he woke up this morning and it was made? BTW here is the hint to just how happy he is. He rarely makes proper eye contact with people and especially the camera.

May Market Wrap

Well despite the weather forecasters being all doom and gloom about the day in the lead up to this months Handmade Expo, the day proved to be a beautiful winter's day. There was only one tiny light sprinkle, not even enough to bother the market goers at the time.

It was however great to be back on board with The Handmade Expo and the day certainly did not disappoint me. Whilst it was not a crazy market day the true die hard handmade lovers did turn up and once again show their amazing support!

It was also the first time in a long time that I had been solo flying at the market and I am happy with how it went. And those who were hunting for me did find my new spot up on the paved area.

The new nappy bag seem to be well received and hopefully next month will be able to have a couple more and not just the sample up. These are available as a custom order, which means you get the choose the colours/fabrics making the bag truly unique, which after all is the joy of handmade.

Back in the swing

Ok so for the last few weeks I have been slightly absent. And some what absent minded. But I am back now and ready to go.

For those who are not aware I took some time off to have life changing surgery. So if you know me from the markets and have met me in person you will start to notice a difference when you see me again.

Speaking of which, I will be back on board for The Handmade Expo this month after a couple of months off. I will have lots of new and exciting things available including Knitts by Helen again with her lovely scaves and beanies. As well as some beautiful knitted head bands.

Helen is my wonderfull and talented Mother In Law who does amazing knitted items in her spare time. From the knitted tinkabell balls and cubes to scaves and shawls. She likes to give me the privalage to sell her items during the winter months. So stay tuned for some pics coming soon.

My Creative Space

I have not done one of these for a while so what better time than after my holidays. I headed off on a Road trip with Mr fluffy Changes, Mr T and my In laws, to Sydney for a little over a week. We travelled some intresting roads and saw some funny sights.

But the trip was about a wedding. So I did what any sewer does and I set about making a little black dress.

Holidays

Just letting you all know in the next couple of weeks I will be away on holidays. My on line stores, Made it and A Beautiful Thing, will still be operating. As I will pack the items in the car with me. (Along with the items needed for posting) So do not be surprised if you have it posted from a different location.
I have completed all but one custom order (I had a good handfull this month). This will be done the first week back.
This also means that I will not be attending this months The Handmade Expo. I am quiet sad about this but becuase I am going to a wedding I had no choice of the dates. I will also be missing the April The Handmade Expo, but more on that next month.
April will also bring some time off for personal matters and I will only be doing 1 custom order (yet to be filled) in the first two weeks. So if you are after something special please email me and let me know early so I can have the fabrics in and your order completed by the 9th of April.
On the 10th Of April I will also be found at The Butterfly Tree markets. This will be last Market you will see me at until May (hopefully).
See you all on the flip side of my Holidays

One word...

HOT
That is the word for the weekend just gone. It was a scorcher across South East Queensland (or still is today). And this time there has been no summer storm yet to cool us down. But enough about the weather, lets talk markets.

The Handmade Expo Saturday

So I had two crazy hot markets in two days did I survive? Yes. But it did come down to the wire as to weather I was going to be able to pull it off. See what I did not tell you guys was I had been REALLY sick in the days leading up to the markets. Sick enough that I wanted to be admitted to the hospital due to high fevers. But at that stage I was still able to swallow so I was sent home with more antibiotics. But my Gp came to my rescue Friday lunch time and gave me a script for something extra that saved my day. By 4pm that afternoon I was much better and was able to feel human.

Poppyseed Markets Sunday

So I met some wonderful people this weekend. Lots of new faces and some older ones. And thank you to all who braved the heat both days. It was great meeting every one and their little ones.

Huge weekend

Ok so this weekend is going to be huge (and lets hope I will be still standing by the end of it all lol).

So on Saturday I have the Handmade Expo! Which I am totally stoked to be back there with.

Than some thing crazy occured to me, that is I am going to one Market that weekend, that I may as well do two. So with out any further ado, I am please to say I will now be joining the Poppyseed market family as well this weekend on the Gold Coast!

Did I mention HUGE weekend! So I look forward to meeting even more Handmadies and people who love hand made this weekend. But forgive me if I do not have much of a voice by Sunday afternoon. :)

So this Saturday you can make purchases at the handmade expo by Eftpos!! Excited, I am becuase I know how much I hate carrying cash!

Also at The Handmade Expo they are collecting donations of craft supplies for thoose who lost their craft supplies in the recent floods. So if you have some craft supplies or fabric you can spare bring it on down and see Mickey, Leisa or Miriam.

On other news A Beautiful Thing is also back up and running again this year. With this months stocking being all things red. So stop by and take a peak (and make a purchase!), because all of these beautiful items are handmade by lots of talented women.

Latest creation

Ok a few weeks ago I was given the huge challange in a custom order and it did send me slightly star crazy. But I think the results are worth it.
I really hope that new home loves these custom made nursery items.
